Happy New Year!! This week at MK

Happy new year! Hope you all had a good Xmas. Sorry for the lack of posts over Christmas I have been off making the most of the storm swells that have been battering the Cornish coast line and getting a great New years surf in..

This week at MK we have Freestyle night on Thursday night and the first Park Strife of 2014 this Friday from 7pm..

New for 2014 we will have selected features of the main park setup open on Fridays from 12pm-6pm, This will change every week and we will aim to have as much open as possible, We will then of course reshape these features ready for the evening session. So if your stuck for something to do on a Friday day time then why not head on down for a day time shred!
As well as having the park open on Friday days we will be trialing our new freestyle zone which will be setup on the top of the left hand slope. This will be a smaller set of features aimed at progression which will be
open Thursday-Friday-Saturday and Sunday 12pm-Close.

Oniell Shoreditch Showdown

Last Thursday the Parkshaper team headed down to Shoreditch to work alongside the DWA to build the setup for one of the best UK ski and snowboard events that London has ever seen..

The park build started early Thursday morning with the arrival of the 80 tons of snow from the snow centre which arrived in 4 lorry loads.
With the main rail setup already in place the day before the carpenters where putting the finishing touches to the specially made ledges and brick work, whilst all us shapers got to work on the moving the snow around.

Luckily the weather gods where good to us all day and with no rain and a slight chill in the air the snow held up beautifully. On previous external snow drops we have found the snow sometimes doesn't hold very well making it hard to shape and feel soft under foot..
This time it was definitely not the case.

We started by getting the bulk of the snow in the right places making sure we had a good foot of snow deep all over. We then started getting the snow up onto the drop in ramp and take off.

Luckily we had Mario the italian tele handler driver who albeit very slowly negotiated his way around the features to assist us in getting the snow onto the centre section.

From there we then pushed the snow upwards to fully cover the drop in ramp and then build the take offs using the park rakes to ensure a tidy finish..

I have to give a massive shout out to Joe Rackley and his team for the design and build quality of the rails, post box, bus stop and street sign.. They where all so sick and built to perfection.
I can't believe Joe built an exact replica of a london post box.. and if you looked closely you could event see Joes face peeking out at you through the letter box..

The level of riding on the day was great, with 45 of the UK's best skiers and boarders the lucky few that got tickets to the show where definitely in for a treat..

A massive well done from all the team to 11 year old Will Gilmore, the youngest rider out there by far but did not hesitate to drop in and front board his way down the down rail.. SO SICK..

A big thank you to everyone who made the event what it was and thanks for inviting us to be part of it, a lot of blood sweat and tears went into the setup which I'm sure if you speak to anyone they will tell you they would do it again in a heartbeat..

Roll on next year!?

Boarders Battle Stroke Raffle at Park Strife Oct 5th..

On October 5th at SNOZONE Mk we are holding a Charity Raffle to raise money for the Stroke Association.
The night is also a Park Strife slope event so no better time to come down and shred the park , hit up the AIRBAG.net and enter the raffle for the a chance to go home with a great prize.
Prizes have been donated by many extreme sports industry brands such as VANS, Monster, FBBB, Swap Boards, Allias23, Flow house Bedford, Butta, Boarders Boards, TJs surf shop, Westbeach and many more.
The night is also to remember friends and family who may of been affect by STROKE.
Here are a few words from Rachel whos mum sadly passed away earlier this year..

Many of you may or may not know what a stroke actually is? How it happens? When it happens? Or even why it happens.

Unfortunately as most of you will know I do.

My mother died 6 months ago following a very serious stroke and the complications that can follow. She was in hospital for 1 month following the stroke before she passed and in this month I learnt a lot about strokes and the stroke association.

My mum was a nurse herself and was very passionate about standards of care in all elements of the health service, and I know she would want me to shed some positive light on these last 6 months.

I would therefore like to use this Raffle/fundraiser to not only donate money to improve quality of life for people after a stroke, but also to raise awareness to just how common and sudden the strike of a stroke can be.

The stroke association is the major stroke charity in the UK, and they work with people who share their commitment to changing the world for people affected by a stroke- with stroke survivors and their families; with decision makers ; with researchers and medics as well as their supporters.

They believe that stroke can and should be prevented, and the power of research to save life’s. They know that with support people can recover well and do recover well

They believe that together we can get Stroke the attention it deserves, and change the world for the people it affects.

So if you can make it down on the night we

look forward to

seeing you there..

If you cant make it but would still like to donate

to this great cause then please take a minute
